Dallas Public Library opens Interim Library at Kleberg-Rylie Recreation Center

DALLAS - Dallas Public Library and Dallas Park and Recreation are partnering to provide library services at the Kleberg-Rylie Recreation Center while the neighboring Kleberg-Rylie Branch Library remains closed following water damage during last month’s winter storm.

The interim library will open on March 2 and will operate Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. Services offered will include computer and printing access, materials return and holds pickup. Select library programming, including toddler storytime and senior movie screenings, will be integrated into the recreation center’s schedule as time and space allows.

The Friends of the Dallas Public Library pledged $5,000 to help Dallas Public Library establish the space. Funds will be used to purchase supplies for children's programs, including crafts and storytimes, and other needs as they arise.

“This collaboration reflects what is possible when City departments work together,” said Councilmember Lorie Blair. “The Kleberg-Rylie community relies on its library as a hub for resources, and we’re proud to provide a temporary solution that provides continued access during renovations.”

“The timeline for reopening the Kleberg-Rylie Branch Library remains undetermined,” said Director of Libraries Manya Shorr. “This interim library will allow us to continue serving the community.”

Kleberg-Rylie Branch suffered flooding throughout the building. All the carpet, several feet of drywall and more than 22,000 books were destroyed. The full scope of needed repairs is still being assessed.
