DALLAS - This Valentine’s Day weekend, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is encouraging Dallas residents to spread the love in an unforgettable way—by giving a deserving shelter dog a day out, a weekend away, or even a loving home. Through DAS’s Doggie Daycation and Valentine’s Staycation programs, as well as a special Valentine’s Date Night event, the community is invited to connect with adoptable pets in fun, meaningful ways.
“Instead of traditional Valentine’s gifts, we’re inviting the community to treat a shelter dog to some quality time outside—or inside—the shelter,” said Assistant Director, Amanda Earl. “These programs help our dogs decompress, let their personalities shine, and often lead to successful adoptions.”
Valentine’s Date Night – Saturday, February 14
In addition to Daycations and Staycations, DAS will host a special Valentine’s Date Night adoption event on Saturday, February 14, with extended hours until 8:00 p.m. Guests are invited to stop by, meet adoptable pets, and enjoy a festive, love-filled evening at the shelter.
For those longing for a longer dose of puppy love, DAS offers Valentine’s Staycations—short-term weekend foster opportunities that give dogs a cozy break from shelter life.
Staycations allow participants to welcome a dog into their home from Friday through the holiday weekend. It’s a perfect way to enjoy companionship, provide a restful environment for a shelter dog, and support DAS’s lifesaving mission. If needed, DAS can also provide additional fostering resources such as supplies, guidance, and support to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Staycation Details:
• Pickup: Friday, February 13, 11:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. • Drop-off: February 15 or 16 (DAS staff will coordinate the best time with each participant.) • Interested in fostering longer than the weekend? DAS can help coordinate extended foster opportunities.
“These weekend stays can make a tremendous difference for our dogs,” added Assistant Director, Amanda Earl. “A quiet home, a soft bed, and a little love go a long way.”
Valentine Doggie Daycations
Doggie Daycations offer participants the chance to take a shelter dog out for a few hours of sunshine, exploration, and companionship. Volunteers are encouraged to capture photos and videos during their outing and complete a brief report card afterward—valuable insight that helps DAS share each dog’s unique personality with potential adopters.
A recent study conducted by The Hockaday School found that over 90% of dogs who participate in DAS Daycations go on to achieve positive outcomes, including adoption, fostering, rescue placement, or reunification with their previous owner.
Participants must be 18 or older.
