Kleberg-Rylie Branch Library Temporarily Closes due to Inclement Weather Water Damage

DALLAS - Kleberg-Rylie Branch Library is temporarily closed until further notice due to water damage sustained during this week’s freezing temperatures

“The fire suppression line break has affected the entire facility, and there was a large volume of water standing in all areas of the library,” said Library Director Manya Shorr.  “While we cannot yet provide a timeline, this will require an extended closure. Once line repairs have been made and extraction has been completed, the City will make necessary repairs.”

Assessment crews have removed the majority of standing water and determined that all flooring will need to be replaced due to the extent of the water damage and the unknown length of time the water remained in the building. It is also likely that several feet of drywall will need to be removed and replaced, as moisture continues to migrate the longer it sits. Additional testing is required to confirm the full scope of repairs.

Crews estimate the branch will remain closed for multiple months. However, this timeline may change as assessments and repairs continue. Conversations have started with Dallas Park & Recreation to discuss utilizing the recreation center next door to deliver limited library service.

During the closure, patrons are encouraged to visit the Prairie Creek Branch at 9609 Lake June Road for library services. For updates and information about programming, visit www.dallaslibrary.org

Book returns at the Kleberg-Rylie Branch are also closed. Patrons are asked not to leave materials at the branch, as they will not be collected. Hold pickup locations can be changed by logging in to their account at www.dallaslibrary.org or calling 214-670-1400.
