Winter Weather Preparedness:
What Residents and Property Managers Need to Know
Winter weather can bring unexpected challenges—from freezing temperatures to power outages—but planning ahead can help protect residents, properties, and peace of mind.
Whether you’re a resident, tenant, property owner, or property manager, taking proactive steps now can make a significant difference when temperatures drop. Below are essential winter preparedness tips for apartment communities and rental properties.
Please see the video below for additional winter preparedness guidance.
For Residents & Tenants
-
Learn your community’s emergency plan and know who to contact during an outage.
-
Keep cabinet doors open under sinks during cold weather to help protect pipes.
-
Maintain a thermostat setting of at least 55°F and know where your water shutoff valve is located.
-
Ensure you have renter’s insurance and keep policy information accessible.
For Property Owners & Managers
-
Establish and clearly communicate an emergency plan ahead of severe weather.
-
Prepare for freezing temperatures by having licensed plumbing and HVAC professionals on standby.
-
Communicate early and often using emails, alerts, or resident portals.
-
Insulate pipes in unheated areas and shut off sprinkler systems to prevent freeze-related damage.
Stay Prepared, Stay Safe
Winter weather is unpredictable, but preparation helps reduce risks and minimize damage. By working together, residents and property managers can keep communities safe, informed, and prepared all season long.

Tres Logos Camp Cleanup
On January 20, 2026, City teams and partners successfully carried out the Tres Logos Camp Cleanup Response Operation—a large-scale, multi-department effort addressing an extensive campsite located along Long Branch Creek behind the 3200 block of Tres Logos Lane.
The operation required careful coordination due to the size of the site and the combination of public creek land and adjacent private property. Teams worked across several hours to secure the area, conduct outreach, enforce applicable regulations, and complete a thorough cleanup of debris and trash throughout the site.
Public safety was a top priority throughout the operation. Law enforcement personnel secured the area, provided site safety, and supported cleanup crews as they entered the camp. Specialized units assisted with aerial monitoring and structure sweeps, while transportation teams ensured safe and orderly processing where required.
In parallel, outreach teams engaged individuals at the site prior to and during the operation, offering resources, services, and support. Cleanup crews followed once areas were deemed safe, removing debris from both the creek corridor and surrounding properties to restore the land and reduce environmental and safety concerns.
The success of the Tres Logos Camp Cleanup Response Operation reflects the strength of cross-department collaboration, clear planning, and shared responsibility. By working together, teams were able to cover a significant area efficiently while balancing enforcement, outreach, and environmental restoration.
This coordinated response serves as a strong example of how collaboration and preparation can lead to meaningful, measurable results in addressing complex community challenges.

The Heavy Clean and MOW Clean Team
Keeping Dallas Clean, Safe, and Livable
Mow and Clean Operations play a vital role in promoting cleaner, safer neighborhoods while improving the overall quality of life for residents across the city. Working in close coordination with Code Officers, the team helps address property conditions that may impact public health, safety, and neighborhood appearance. Their efforts ensure that communities remain well-maintained and supported through proactive and responsive services.
Most Mow and Clean cases begin with a Code Officer inspection and referral. Property owners are first given the opportunity to voluntarily resolve violations within an established timeframe. When compliance is not achieved, the case is referred to Mow and Clean Operations for abatement. Through this process, the team steps in to bring properties into compliance, reduce hazards, and help preserve the safety and integrity of Dallas neighborhoods.
We sincerely appreciate and recognize the dedication, professionalism, and hard work of the Mow and Clean Operations team, whose commitment makes a lasting impact in communities citywide.
