DALLAS -The City of Dallas is set to kick off its highly anticipated MLK Celebration Week on January 13, 2026. Organized by the Office of Housing & Community Empowerment, HELP, Workforce Solutions, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and a coalition of community partners, this annual week-long event offers residents an opportunity to honor and reflect on the life and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Presented by JBJ Management, MLK Week 2026 is packed with meaningful events designed to inspire action, unity, and remembrance. Activities include the Day of Reflection, Prayer and Dedication, a job fair, multicultural showcase, the inaugural Drivers of Opportunity Symposium, a candle lighting ceremony, community clean-up, and the prestigious Scholarship & Awards Gala. The week culminates with the beloved MLK Day Parade on Monday, January 19.
A Celebration of Legacy and Aspirations
The 2026 theme, “Remaining Awake Through a Great Transformation”, encourages participants to chase their highest aspirations and make a lasting impact, echoing Dr. King’s message of perseverance and determination. Kelly Drake, Vice Chair of the MLK Community Center Advisory Board, shared his thoughts on this year’s theme: “Dr. King’s message urges us to remain engaged and participate fully in shaping a more just Dallas. During MLK Week 2026, may we transform awareness into action, unity into progress, and hope into lasting change for our communities.”
Clara Brown-Trimble, Chair of the MLK Community Center Advisory Board, echoed Dr. King’s message, “Dr. King's call to remain awake challenges us to recognize injustice where it exists, to confront it honestly, and to commit ourselves to building a city rooted in dignity, social justice, and opportunity for all. Let this week be both a reflection on how far we’ve come and a recommitment to the work still before us.”
Honoring Excellence and Inspiring Future Leaders
The standout event of the MLK Celebration Week is the annual MLK Scholarship and Awards Gala, scheduled for Saturday, January 17. This prestigious gathering supports the educational goals of Dallas students and celebrates residents whose impactful work reflects the values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year, attendees will hear from keynote speaker journalist and commentator Roland Martin, Trailblazer Award recipient Richard Miles, and Master of Ceremony FOX 4 News Reporter, Steven Dial.
