Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson’s statement on the death of former U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige

DALLAS—Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson on Tuesday released the following statement on the death of former U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige:

“I am heartbroken by the loss of my friend, Rod Paige, who led a remarkable life of service to Texas and to our nation. His lifelong public service began in the United States Navy before he was drawn to education where he served as a teacher, a coach, a dean, a trustee, and a superintendent. He continually led the improvement of every institution he touched, and his commitment to the education of our next generation culminated in his service as U.S. Secretary of Education under President Bush.

“Beyond his distinguished career, Paige was devoted to his family and his faith. While I am deeply grieved by his passing, I am inspired by his legacy. My prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
