Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) celebrates Dallas Arbor Day by hosting the seventh annual Branch Out Dallas event on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Launched in fall 2018, community popularity encouraged the City to add the Branch Out Dallas tree giveaway program to the Dallas Arbor Day annual celebration the following year.  

Dallas residents who registered for the Branch Out Dallas tree giveaway program will receive free 5-gallon tree during the event. Registered participants could choose from various tree types selected for their hardiness and regional suitability including American elm, bald cypress, chinquapin oak, redbud and sycamore. An estimated 2,500 trees will be distributed.   

The Branch Out Dallas tree giveaway program supports citywide initiatives that increase the city’s overall tree canopy. Trees reduce the amount of stormwater runoff, provide cooling shade, improve air quality, and combat the urban heat island effect.  

Branch Out Dallas is led by DWU and the citywide Dallas Forestry team, with support from community partners and volunteers who help distribute the trees.
