 Victoria Gonzales
Altars
On view: October 4 – November 7, 2025
Reception: October 18, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Gonzales’ work is intimately connected to her familial and cultural identity. Through mixed media painting and ceramics, her work explores the complex narratives hidden in the everyday – recalling and reshaping memories of family, ritual, and the landscape of her upbringing.
In her solo exhibition, Altars, she explores themes of identity, family dynamics, and the process of navigating the mundane and tragic circumstances of daily life. Drawing on her Mexican American upbringing and ties to Catholicism, Gonzales narrative works include symbolic elements from Catholic imagery and traditional metalwork found in the neighborhoods of her hometown. Her paintings depict the sharing of meals, tending to daily responsibilities such as caring for family chickens, connecting to nature and seeking spiritual connection through the lighting of candles. Intertwining these elements in triptych paintings embedded with traditional religious symbols, her reimagined altars emphasize community, unity, and daily routine as a new form of ritual and worship.
Currently based in Oak Cliff – Dallas, TX, Victoria Gonzales is a native of San Antonio, TX. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Baylor University in 2019 and her Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas in 2022. She has exhibited throughout Texas including a solo show at Pencil on Paper Gallery in 2023 and Arts Fort Worth in 2022, as well as juried exhibitions with 500x Gallery, Art Room, Greater Denton Arts Council, the Center for Contemporary Arts, and others. In 2020, she was awarded first place in the Texas National Competition and Exhibition. Most recently she exhibited at William Campbell Gallery in Fort Worth, TX and the Dallas Art Fair. Victoria is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Tarrant County College Northwest.
 Bonny Leibowitz
Adventures in Plunderland
curated by Iris Bechtol
December 6, 2025 – January 10, 2026
Reception: December 6, 2025, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
at Oak Cliff Cultural Center
Focusing on nature as an “ever-evolving system intricately intertwined with human culture”, Leibowitz constructs hybrid objects and installations that blur boundaries between the manufactured and the organic. Her large-scale installations combine mangled steel, plastics, salvaged architectural materials, tree roots, and branches with photographs that become structures depicting the aftermath of demolished buildings and storms. Informed by post-naturalism and fragmented memories of land and place, her installations function as “facsimiles of nature” considering complex dynamics around environmental stories, histories and constructed narratives.
In conjunction with her show Adventures in Plunderland Leibowitz will present an outdoor installation Sightings from Plunderland at Trinity River Audubon Center, furthering the complex dialogue between humans and nature. The installation will be on view December 13, 2025 – January 10, 2026.
Originally from Philadelphia, Leibowitz lives and works in Dallas, TX. She studied at Temple University at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Her work has been included in solo and group exhibitions nationally. In 2023, she was Visiting Artist at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Reviews of her work have been featured in notable publications including Southwest Contemporary Vol. 10 – Radical Futures, ArtSpiel and Modern Dallas. Leibowitz is a recipient of the Nasher Sculpture Center 2024 Nasher Artist Grant and was awarded a 2026 solo exhibition at Women and Their Work in Austin, TX.
Registration is requested for the artist talk and hike on December 13 at Trinity River Audubon Center.
