Statement from Dallas City Councilmember Maxie L. Johnson on ICE Facility Shooting in Dallas

“My heart is heavy today as our city mourns the loss of two lives and prays for the healing of another who remains in critical condition. No family should ever have to endure this kind of pain, and I extend my deepest condolences to the loved ones left grieving.

I know this pain personally. Years ago, I lost my son to senseless gun violence. That wound never fully heals, and I carry it with me every day. It is a grief no parent, no family, should have to bear. Today, I stand with those families who are now walking that same painful road.

Violence of any kind is never the answer, and attacks on law enforcement or public servants will never be acceptable. These men and women take on a sacred responsibility every day—to protect and serve—and they deserve our respect, our support, and our prayers.

In moments like this, we must come together—not in fear or division—but in compassion, faith, and unity. I ask the people of Dallas to join me in lifting up the victims, their families, and our law enforcement officers in prayer. May we recommit ourselves to building a city where peace and justice guide us, and where every life is valued and protected.”
