Texas Latino Comic Con Returns for 9th Annual Event

Dallas - The Latino Cultural Center will host the ninth annual Texas Latino Comic Con, a celebration of Latino creators, artists and cultural storytelling. The free and open to the public, one-day event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, and will spotlight the 25th anniversary of Baldo, the beloved syndicated comic strip by Hector Cantu and Carlos Castellanos.

This year’s convention will honor “Baldo”, a groundbreaking strip that has captured the hearts of readers with its heartfelt humor and authentic portrayal of Latino family life. Attendees can look forward to a special panel featuring Hector Cantu, celebrating his legacy and the cultural impact of “Baldo” over the past 25 years.

The excitement continues with the return of live lucha libre, a fan-favorite highlight of the convention. Texas Latino Comic Con Champion Bengali el Divo will defend the championship belt in a thrilling match, joined by local wrestling talent and comic creators. This high-energy spectacle showcases the dynamic connection between Latino comics and the theatrical world of lucha libre.

“We are proud to partner with the Latino Cultural Center for the ninth consecutive year to bring together the best Latino comic book creators and fans,” said Hector Rodriguez, founder of Texas Latino Comic Con and creator of “El Peso Hero”. “Celebrating Baldo’s milestone and bringing back lucha libre with Bengali defending the title makes this year’s event a true testament to our community’s creativity and spirit.”

The convention will feature artist workshops, comic creator panels and opportunities to connect with local vendors such as Mundo Mascaras, a Dallas-Fort Worth-based family company offering unique lucha merchandise. Attendees of all ages can immerse themselves in the rich storytelling and artistry of Latino creators.
