DALLAS - Today, the City of Dallas announces the appointment of Manya Shorr as the new Director of the Dallas Public Library.
Shorr brings over two decades of leadership experience in large urban library systems, including serving as Director of the Fort Worth Public Library from 2017 to 2023. Also having served in previous leadership positions in Washington, D.C., Omaha, Nebraska, Sacramento, California and Portland, Oregon and as an Acting Assistant City Manager in Fort Worth. Her work resulted in increases in public library usage, expanded services in previously underserved communities, and established new partnerships. Shorr has also successfully secured multiple library bond packages and has spent years ensuring library priorities are aligned with city goals, community needs and fiscal realities.
In 2020, Manya was awarded Librarian of the Year by the Texas Library Association, and also previously coached library leaders internationally and has taught Library and Information Science at the University of Alabama and Catholic University.
Manya holds a B.A. from the University of Oregon, an M.L.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
