Mayor Johnson Awards $10,000 to The Senior Source from New Jersey Community Capital
DALLAS — Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson has awarded $10,000 to the nonprofit The Senior Source from New Jersey Community Capital (NJCC).
NJCC, a leading national community development financial institution, provided the grant at the close of Black History Month to mark the commemoration's focus on creating economic equity for divested populations. The $10,000 grant from NJCC was awarded by Mayor Johnson to The Senior Source, which serves as the ultimate resource hub for older adults and caregivers in Dallas.
"The Senior Source is a deeply valued Dallas nonprofit that uplifts one of our most vulnerable communities," Mayor Johnson explained. "I am grateful to New Jersey Community Capital for this generous contribution and look forward to seeing it make a meaningful impact in empowering Dallas seniors."
Dallas has the largest senior workforce in the U.S. and the most residents aged 65 and older — a populace that has grown five times faster than the rest of the city since 2010. The Senior Source advocates for all senior Dallasites and ensures that their financial and emotional wellbeing is achievable.
"Knowing only three percent of all philanthropic giving goes towards organizations supporting older adults, every gift counts. That’s why we are grateful to Mayor Johnson for selecting The Senior Source for this generous $10,000 gift and recognizing that supporting seniors means uplifting Dallas,” said Stacey Malcolmson, President and CEO of The Senior Source.
“This funding will be used to support our programing — from ensuring every nursing home resident in Dallas County has an advocate to providing free technology classes, guidance for family caregivers, and employment resources, and matching hundreds of older adults to volunteer opportunities that fill their lives with purpose and address some of our city’s greatest needs."
Since 1961, The Senior Source’s mission has been to enhance the quality of life for older adults in greater Dallas. The nonprofit agency serves as the go-to resource for everything older adults may need including financial guidance, advice on long-term care facilities, caregiver support, and ways to connect through volunteerism. The agency assists more than 25,000 seniors and their families annually with a diverse range of services, programs, and resources. Learn more at theseniorsource.org.
