Freedom Trail App: Deep Ellum AR Experience Now Available!
Today, the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture launched the new interactive app entitled the "Freedom Trail App: Deep Ellum AR Experience"
The official announcement took place at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the Deep Ellum Community Center (2528 Elm St., Suite A, Dallas, TX 75226). The event brought together city officials, cultural leaders, historians, and key stakeholders to celebrate the app’s launch and its role in expanding access to historical and artistic narratives throughout Dallas.
This augmented reality (AR) experience brings the rich history of Deep Ellum to life, teaching users the history of black culture. The app walks users through key moments and site-specific locations in Dallas’s history beginning in the 1860s through present day educating residents about the impact of slavery, the significance of Juneteenth, and its effects on Dallas.
This initiative is a crucial component of the City of Dallas’s Racial Equity Plan and 2018 Dallas Cultural Plan. The strategic framework aims to help Dallas understand and address racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities throughout the city.
The app can be downloaded for free by visiting the App Store and Google Play store.
