  New Volunteer Adoption Binder
We’re excited to announce a new Volunteer Adoption Binder to help guide you through the adoption desk roles! This binder, located in the filing cabinet next to the adoption desk, covers all the essential info for Adoption Desk Assistants, Meet and Greet Assistants, and Pick-Up Assistants. It includes scripts, FAQs, and step-by-step instructions.
Additionally, we’ll be posting helpful videos to My Impact, specifically for the Adoption Desk Assistant role. If you have a background check, you’ll be trained to be an Adoption Counselor, where you’ll help guide potential adopters, provide pet info, and coordinate meet and greets. Volunteers without a background check will assist by prepping folders, stocking the front desk, and welcoming visitors. If you do not have a current background check (they are valid for a year), please email us at DASVolunteer@dallas.gov and we can send you the link to fill one out.
We hope this new resource makes your volunteering experience even easier and more rewarding!
Daycation Celebration!
Since we began tracking outcomes at the end of May, the Daycation program has brought immense joy, hope, and love to hundreds of pets. With 318 adoptions, 125 fosters, and 157 rescues, this program is changing lives—and not just for the dogs. The pictures we take, the experiences they have, the smiles they bring home—these are all pieces of the puzzle that help us find them a place where they truly belong.
But we couldn’t have done it without YOU—our incredible volunteers. Thank you for your incredible work. You’ve helped us reach 600 outcomes in just six months—and this is just the beginning! Together, we’re making an impact that’s bigger than any one dog. So, keep up the amazing work, and let’s continue to create moments that bring joy to these dogs—and to those who adopt, foster, or rescue them.
Sign up here for a daycation today and help us hit the next big milestone. Thank you for being the reason behind so many happy tails!
Reminder: If you’ve completed your canine training, no appointment is needed for a Daycation! We just ask that you send us an email or text before you come by so we can have supplies ready.
Volunteer Town Hall Update
We’re excited to let you know that our Volunteer Town Halls will now be happening every two months! These gatherings are a great opportunity to connect with fellow volunteers, share feedback, and stay up-to-date on everything happening at DAS. The next Town Hall will be in January, so stay tuned for more details! We can't wait to see you there and continue to grow our wonderful volunteer community.
Volunteer Shout Out!
Every newsletter we try to randomly select an active volunteer to recognize for all of their hard work! This month, we would like to shout out Peter Polcari. Thank you for everything you do as a volunteer.
Do you have any pets at home?
Not currently, but I am looking to adopt.
What is your favorite volunteer position?
I love volunteering with the playgroups. The playgroup staff is a great group to work with and I get to meet lots of dogs!
What is your favorite part about volunteering with DAS?
The people. I have met a lot of great people, both staff and volunteers. It is a joy to see all of the loving care that is provided to the animals at DAS.
Do you have a favorite DAS story to share?
After one of my first shifts with the playgroup, I decided to walk some dogs. I went to a kennel with three 1 year old pups and decided to take them out one at a time. I entered the kennel and as I was putting the harness on the first pup I was practically mauled. The same thing happened with the second dog. It wasn't until the third pup that I figured out I should leave the my treats outside the kennel!
Welcome New Volunteers!
Welcome all of the new volunteers who have joined us since the last newsletter!
