City Celebrates Dallas Arbor Day

What

Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) celebrates Dallas Arbor Day by hosting the sixth annual Branch Out Dallas event on Saturday, November 2, 2024. The Branch Out Dallas tree giveaway program was launched in fall 2018 and, because of the growing demand and participation from residents, the following year the event became a part of the Dallas Arbor Day annual celebration.

Residents who registered for the Branch Out Dallas tree giveaway program will receive a free 5-gallon tree. Dallas residents chose from five tree types selected for their hardiness and regional suitability including chinquapin oak, cedar elm, redbud, Mexican white oak and lacebark elm, that were selected for their hardiness and regional suitability. Over 2,500 trees will be distributed.

Branch Out Dallas supports citywide initiatives that increase the city’s overall tree canopy. Trees reduce the amount of stormwater runoff to drainage systems, help cool temperatures, improve air quality and mitigate the heat island effect.

Branch Out Dallas is led by DWU and the citywide Dallas Forestry team, with support from community partners and volunteers who help distribute the trees.
