The Oak Cliff Cultural Center to host solo exhibition “I DON’T DREAM ABOUT THE FUTURE” by MOM (Brooke Chaney)

October 5 through November 15

DALLAS - The Oak Cliff Cultural Center (OC3) will present I DON’T DREAM ABOUT THE FUTURE, a solo exhibition by MOM (Brooke Chaney) with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2024. The event is free and open to the public. MOM uses vibrant colors, abstract forms, and dimensional elements to construct landscapes that evoke dreams, memories, and parallel realities—spaces where past, present, and future converge.

The artist will also present a gallery talk from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2024, in the OC3 Gallery at Oak Cliff Cultural Center.

With a BFA in Fibers from the University of North Texas, MOM draws deeply on their background in textile surface design processes, including screen printing, vector drawing, and heat transfer vinyl. This experience informs their approach to painting, where layers of flat, opaque shapes shift in color, temperature, and saturation to create punchy and surreal depictions of nature.

Their imagined landscapes in “I DON’T DREAM ABOUT THE FUTURE” exists as contemplative space, a space to pause and reflect on themes of personal narrative and the transient nature of time. Inspired by feelings of temporal displacement, the exhibition examines the relationship between linear and cyclical time, questioning how these concepts shape our perception of life and encouraging viewers to discover their own narratives within them.

MOM (Brooke Chaney) is a contemporary, multidisciplinary artist based in Dallas, Texas, who has been actively creating since 2020. They have created art for numerous national brands, annually participated in local community engagement efforts, and co-founded the award-winning artist co-op and studio, TRADE Oak Cliff. Chaney’s work has been featured throughout DFW including in the 2024 AURORA Art Quest, the Creative Arts Center, 500X Gallery, and Pencil on Paper Gallery. Chaney’s mural work is currently on view in Meow Wolf’s latest immersive art experience The Real Unreal in Grapevine, TX.

The Oak Cliff Cultural Center is a division of the Office of Arts and Culture and is located at 223 W. Jefferson Blvd. next to the historic Texas Theater. Operating hours are from Noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday every week.
