Dallas Public Works hosts new inspector training for North Texas workers

DALLAS – Municipal employees from across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex packed more than 70 seats in the Eco Park building’s conference room this June to learn the finer details of construction inspection.

The City of Dallas Department of Public Works hosted this new two-day training seminar in partnership with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), and featured speakers from the City of Dallas.

Attendees representing 22 different North Texas municipalities asked questions and learned about a variety of in-depth construction inspection topics including traffic control planning, materials testing, construction material calculations, and effective communication.

The group also got a chance to network with their fellow public works colleagues, with experience levels ranging from just a couple of years on the job to some with more than 30 years of public service.

The seminar closed out with a visit to an active construction site in Dallas so attendees could see what they learned in the classroom put into action in the field.

Public Works training manager Don Spear was encouraged by the number of attendees for the seminar and plans to take what was learned from this first attempt to provide an even better training experience in the future if they choose to continue the event, he said.

“It’s great we were able to not only provide this training, but that we also could encourage partnerships and growth with our neighboring communities,” Spear said.
