City of Dallas and Congressman Marc Veasey Celebrate $1 million in Federal Funding for West Dallas Multi-purpose Center

DALLAS - On Wednesday, May 29, U.S. Congressman Marc Veasey presented the City of Dallas with a $1 million appropriation for facility upgrades at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center. This funding will support significant center improvements, including the establishment of a Women, Infant and Children (WIC) clinic, reconfiguration of workspace, and enhancements to connectivity between the West Dallas Branch Library and the center. The facility also serves as a respite center during inclement weather.

Congressman Marc Veasey expressed his excitement for the project, stating, "The West Dallas Multi-purpose Center has been a vital resource for this community for decades and with this funding, we will ensure it remains part of the community for decades more. I am proud to support such a meaningful investment in the future of West Dallas."

The West Dallas Multi-purpose Center, established in 1988, serves as a hub for community services, including Senior Services, the West Dallas Community Court, food distribution, and SNAP assistance. The planned upgrades will address the evolving needs of the neighborhood's growing population and modernize the facility to enhance service delivery.

Councilmember Omar Narvaez, who represents District 6 which includes West Dallas, shared his enthusiasm: The upgrades to the West Dallas Multipurpose Center will help meet the changing needs of our community, providing convenient access of services for all generations. Furthermore, the enhancements will create better connectivity between the West Dallas Branch Library and the West Dallas Multipurpose Center. We are deeply grateful to Congressman Veasey for his unwavering support and commitment to our community."

Interim City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert highlighted the broader impact of the upgrades. “This project is another example of our Congressional leadership’s commitment to supporting our community.”

The West Dallas Multipurpose Center has long been a cornerstone of West Dallas, providing essential services to enhance the quality of life for its residents. The planned upgrades will further solidify its role as a community focal point, ensuring that it can continue to meet the diverse needs of the neighborhood.
