They bring insights and updates about new programs promoting equitable housing in Dallas.
The Power of the Fair Housing Act
The Fair Housing Act of 1968 was a game-changer, outlawing discrimination in housing based on race, color, sex, religion, and national origin. The 1988 amendments added protections for those with disabilities and families with children, making housing more inclusive for everyone.
Dallas's Bold Steps for Fair Housing
Dallas has been a trailblazer in fair housing since its first ordinance in 1971. Over the years, the city expanded protections to include sex, disability, and familial status. The Fair Housing Office, established in 1989, received HUD certification in 1995, proving Dallas's commitment to upholding federal fair housing standards.
