Marisol with sweet Sophie (A1205694)
New DAS Volunteer Coordinator
Hi everyone! My name is Marisol I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I left for a few years to live in Lubbock, Texas. After graduating from Texas Tech University, I decided to come back to the DFW area as this is where my family and heart has always been. I have worked with volunteers in some way, shape, or form for over 5 years now and I'm super excited to be here and be able to work with all of you. Fun fact: I have loved all types of animals, especially dogs, since I was a young. I currently have 1 dog. His name is Zocia (pronounced Sasha). He is our family dog and we adopted him for over 15 years ago.
Thank you for all of the love and time you dedicate to all of the pets at DAS. Even in my short time here I can see the huge impact you all make. I have absolutely loved meeting so many of you these past couple of weeks and look forward to meeting many more of you.
I can be reached at the volunteer inbox DASVolunteer@dallas.gov, marisol.dmunoz@dallas.gov, or through the volunteer coordinator phone number (214) 412-4592.
Nathan, the supervisor over the volunteer team, can now be reached directly at (214) 846-2861 or Nathaniel.Thrash@dallas.gov
New Manager over Foster, Adoption, and Rescue
Kirsten Tourville comes to Dallas Animal Services with a heavy background in behavior and training as well as shelter program development. Kirsten's passion to help shelter animals started in Chicago as a volunteer at Chicago Animal Care and Control. This eventually led to her founding a not-for-profit aimed at supporting both shelter and rescue organizations through the creation of playgroup, transfer and volunteer programming at a local intake-only facility. In 2021, Kirsten accepted a position with Dogs Playing for Life as their Operation Manager and trainer for shelter dogs with advanced behaviors. That experience led her to an opportunity to develop a DPFL-style training programs at a few shelters around the country. Kirsten is excited to join the DAS family and to be part of such a passionate animal welfare community. In her spare time, Kirsten enjoys camping with her dog, horseback riding and taking on the occasional board and train.
Kitten Shower & Kitten Nursery Volunteering
Kitten season is upon us! Our kitten nursery will be opening back up April 1st. You DO NOT need your feline handling training to work in the nursery, but you do need to complete the kitten nursery training videos. The training to assist in Kitten Nursery is online, and you can find it by visiting the Opportunities page of your My Impact account and clicking on Introductions to Kittens. There are seven sections of this training, and after you complete each section, you'll return to the Opportunities page to access the next page.
Once you've finished the seventh video, you can navigate back to the opportunities page and sign up for a Kitten Nursery Helper shift under "Cat-Related Opportunities".
In preparation for kitten season, DAS is hosting a kitten shower March 16th 1:00pm-5:00pm. This event is intended for those who are interested and want to learn about the kitten nursery, kitten fostering, and also to drop off any donations. If you are interested in attending a hands-on Kitten Nursery training, please sign up here. Completing this training in-person will qualify you to volunteer in the nursery on lieu of the online kitten nursery training videos.
