Readout: Mayor Johnson's First Day at the World Economic Forum
Mayor Johnson arrived in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday and traveled by car to Davos, Switzerland.
The mayor has traveled to Davos to take part in the World Economic Forum, a premier annual gathering of international leaders. He will spend the coming days in Davos promoting and representing the interests of the City of Dallas and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport during a series of discussions, meetings, and events on crucial global issues.
On Monday evening, Mayor Johnson attended a reception and dinner hosted by Ken Hersh, President and Chief Executive Officer of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, and Bill Browder, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Hermitage Capital Management. Browder has successfully advocated for countries – including the United States – to adopt policies that create major sanctions on human rights violators.
At the reception, Mayor Johnson introduced himself to the guests and engaged in conversations about Dallas with international government officials and business leaders. The guests included Atul Arya, Chief Energy Strategist of S&P Global Commodity Insights; Andrew L. Cohen, Executive Chairman of the Global Private Bank at J.P. Morgan; Joshua S. Friedman, Co-Founder, Co-Chairman, and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Canyon Partners, LLC; Howard M. Meyers, Chairman of Dallas-based Quexco, Inc.; and Jose Minaya, Chief Executive Officer of global asset management firm Nuveen.
Mayor Johnson also met Rostyslav Shurma, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. The two discussed an official Dallas resolution – introduced by Mayor Johnson and approved unanimously by the Dallas City Council – that condemned the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine and severed the city’s sister city ties with Saratov, Russia. Mayor Johnson and Shurma also discussed the possibility of establishing a new city-to-city relationship between Dallas and a Ukrainian city.
Mayor Johnson is scheduled to take part in interviews and meetings on Tuesday.
