Mayor Eric L. Johnson to participate in World Economic Forum
Mayor Eric L. Johnson this week will participate in and speak at the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, which begins Monday in Davos, Switzerland.
The World Economic Forum is a premier annual gathering that brings together global government officials, non-governmental organizations, economists, business titans, entrepreneurs, civic leaders, journalists, and others to discuss crucial international issues and share ideas and solutions.
The mayor will spend the coming days in Davos promoting and representing the interests of the City of Dallas and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
“Dallas has become a consequential city on the global stage,” said Mayor Johnson. “We are a city that attracts investment, businesses, workers, and families from around the world. We have the world’s second-busiest airport, 11 Fortune 500 companies, and renowned arts and cultural scenes. And in the years to come, we are on track to become a financial giant, a major biotech hub, and a center of innovation.”
The mayor was invited to speak on a panel at the Forum — titled “Decongesting Cities” — about modern transportation needs, quality-of-life concerns, and consumer demands.
“Dallas is a vibrant and thriving city that has an amazing story to tell, and it is an honor and a privilege to be able tell it on one of the world’s biggest stages, the World Economic Forum,” Mayor Johnson said.
In addition to the panel discussion, Mayor Johnson plans to take part in myriad meetings, sessions, conversations, dinners, and interviews.
During his time in office, Mayor Johnson has prioritized improving Dallas’s international stature, saying it will be vital to the city’s economic competitiveness in a changing world. His efforts began in early 2020 when he established the Mayor’s International Advisory Council (MIAC), a group of distinguished Dallas residents who formerly held the rank of United States Ambassador, to advise him on global affairs and to help lead international initiatives for the city.
Former United States Ambassador Richard Fisher, a member of MIAC, said Mayor Johnson this week “is taking advantage of a special opportunity.”
“I am delighted that Mayor Johnson is going to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to tell our city’s story and help move Dallas forward,” said Fisher, who was formerly President & CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and Deputy United States Trade Representative. “Representing Dallas on the world’s biggest stages is exactly how the mayor of our city should be spending his time.”
Mayor Johnson was unable to travel internationally for most of his first term because of worldwide pandemic restrictions. But in the last two years, he has also visited Mexico, Qatar, Germany, and France to promote Dallas and to strengthen the city’s international ties.
