Dallas - The City of Dallas hosted a naturalization ceremony in collaboration with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
In the ceremony, 30 citizenship candidates from 18 different countries swore their Oath of Allegiance and became naturalized US citizens. The ceremony took place where we recognize and celebrate our long history of welcoming immigrants from all parts of the world and value their contributions that add to our nation’s blend of cultures, customs, and traditions.
“In hosting the naturalization ceremony, we reaffirm the City’s commitment to advancing an equity and inclusion that welcomes immigrants” said Assistant City Manager Liz Cedillo - Pereira. “In alignment with the Welcoming Dallas Strategic Plan and the Racial Equity Plan, the City of Dallas aims to ensure that diverse populations fully participate in civic life, including increasing access to citizenship.”
Jorge A. Molina, of J. Molina Law Firm PLLC, served as guest speaker and focused on the message. Additionally, Dallas Police Department served as color guard and Michael Childs from the Office of Arts and Culture Community Artist Program sang the national anthem. Council Member Jesse Moreno of District 2, Zarin Gracey of District 3, Adam Bazaldua of District 5, Paula Blackmon of District 9, Jaynie Schultz of District 11, Gay Donnell Willis of District 13, and Paul Ridley of District 14 were also in attendance to congratulate the newly sworn-in US citizens. Following the ceremony, the League of Women Voters aided with voter registration.
"Today’s ceremony is not just about a legal process; it is a celebration of courage, resilience and a profound commitment to civic engagement,” said Dr. Lindsey Wilson, Director of the Office of Equity and Inclusion. “As we witness fellow Dallas residents solemnly taking their Oath of Allegiance, it serves as a poignant reminder that Dallas is enriched by the contributions of immigrants who have purposefully chosen to make this city their home.”
