DALLAS - Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins and City Manager T.C. Broadnax will light a holiday tree on Friday, December 1 at Dallas City Hall Plaza.
The free holiday celebration is open to the public from 4 to 7:30 p.m. A full program with live entertainment on stage includes performances byDallas ISD’s Molina High School Marching band, Mighty Molina Modern Live Band and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Jazz Combo. Devotio Moderna is back again to play and sing Spanish language traditional holiday music. Flamenco “Flame Foundation” and Korean dance group “Navillera” will also perform. The Dallas Police Department’s choir will sing holiday songs. Grand Prairie’s High School “Mariachi Azul” will perform holiday music.
Families are invited to come and enjoy free fun activities. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present by the spectacular 50-foot-tall evergreen tree to greet families and their children; special interactive characters will also be present. Children will have an opportunity to hop on carriage rides and play with real snow. Other activities include mini train rides, bounce houses, a City staff holiday tree decoration exhibit, and snacks for sale at food trucks.
Pastor Richie Butler from St. Luke Community Methodist Church and Chaplain John H. Lumbley with the Dallas Police Department will share special messages from the faith community.
“This is a special celebration to engage with Dallas residents, City employees and their families” said City Manager T.C. Broadnax.
A 50-foot-tall holiday tree will be lit at 6:45 p.m. by Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins and City Manager T.C. Broadnax. City Hall Plaza will be illuminated with holiday lights and décor for families to enjoy and take pictures.
City of Dallas will broadcasting the full event and the tree lighting countdown on Spectrum Channel 16, AT&T channel 99, YouTube.com/CityOfDallasCityHall, and dallascitynews.net/watch-live. Holiday fireworks displayed from Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas Arena are scheduled to close this live event at 7:25 p.m.
