North Texas Giving Day Tomorrow!

September and October Events

October is going to be busy month for events at DAS! This is not a comprehensive list of events over the next two months - these are just the events we still need volunteer help for. To see a full calendar of offsite events, including some of our wonderful volunteer-led events, you can click the link here. 

Off-site events are a great way to help DAS create a connection with the community, provide resources and education for responsible pet ownership, and promote pet fosters and adoptions. 

Saturday, September 23rd - Autos 4 Animals - 8 AM to 12 noon

This adoption event will be located at 3025 S Camino Lagos Grand Prairie, TX 75054. We are looking for two volunteers who can help talk about DAS and handle dogs at the event. 

Tuesday, October 3rd - National Night Out - 5:30 to 8:30 PM

This is a city event at Meadow Stone Park and will feature various city departments. We are looking for one volunteer who can assist with talking about DAS in a booth setting and two volunteers to wear our mascot costumes. 

Sunday, October 8th - Petco Store Event - 10 AM to 3 PM

This adoption event will be located at 5301 Belt Line Rd Dallas, TX 75254 at one of our partner Petco locations. We are looking for two volunteers who can help talk about DAS and handle dogs at the event. 

Saturday, October 14th - Girl Scout Financial Literacy Event - 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM

This event will be at 4901 Briarhaven Rd., Fort Worth, TX 76109 and will be a way to talk to Girl Scouts about the pet adoption process. We are looking for one volunteer who is able to handle dogs at the event and talk about responsible pet ownership. 

Saturday, October 14th - Katy Trail Event - 10 AM to 2 PM

This adoption event will be located at Snyder's Union on the Katy trail. This is a popular event every year and is a great way to promote DAS while enjoying the fall weather. We are looking for one more volunteer for this event. 

Sunday, October 15th - Barktoberfest - 2 to 5 PM

Join us for an adoption event at The Glossary Studio - 499 Arapaho Rd Richardson, TX - where we will have adoptable dogs and so much more! We are looking for three volunteers who can help handle dogs and talk to the public at this event. 

Sunday, October 15th - Dallas Fan Fest - 2 to 5 PM

Join us for an adoption event at The Dallas Fan Fest, located at the Dallas Convention Center! We are looking for three volunteers who can help handle dogs and talk to the public at this event. Volunteers at this event will receive passes to attend the Dallas Fan Fest. 

Saturday, October 28th - AT&T Family Weekend - 10 AM to 1 PM

This adoption event will be located at 5301 Belt Line Rd Dallas, TX 75254 at one of our partner Petco locations. We are looking for one volunteer who can help talk about DAS and handle dogs at the event. 

Football Themed Photoshoot!

We are looking for volunteer help tomorrow, 9/21/23, from 4-5 PM to assist our marketing team with a football themed photoshoot. This opportunity would involve helping run dogs to and from the play yard as our marketing team takes the photos. If you are interested in signing up, click the link here to sign up!

Dog Walking Volunteers

We are in urgent need of volunteer help to walk the dogs along the walking trail while staff works to clean the kennels, especially for those that are housed separately in the same kennel. If you have any morning availability over the next weeks, please consider signing up for a morning dog walking or kennel care shift (8-9, 9-10, or 10-11).

Doggie Daycations  No matter how much enrichment and socialization we provide, life in a shelter is stressful for pets. That's why we are excited to offer our Doggie Daycation Program, which provides volunteers the opportunity to take DAS dogs for a day trip! Dogs on Daycations can go to any dog-friendly locations (such as parks, patio dining restaurants, running or hiking trails, etc.). These daycations are also an opportunity to gather valuable media content and behavior observations outside of the shelter.  For the next few months, we are offering Daycations on a limited schedule. The only days we are currently offering Daycations are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. While we are limited on the days, we can be much more flexible with the times. If you work from home and want a canine companion for your work day, reach out to us and we can schedule an earlier pick-up!  To sign up, click the link here!  Note: Canine Handling Training is required for this position.

Kitten Nursery

Are you a cat lover? Are you not currently a cat lover, but looking to learn more about our Feline friends? Sign up for a Kitten Nursery shift today! 

You do not need your 4 hours or Feline Handling training to sign up for this position, but you do need to complete the 7 part kitten nursery training on My Impact. Here is the link to the first video. 

If you've already completed the nursery training, you can sign up for a shift here! Our most needed shifts at this time are Monday from 6-8 PM and Tuesday from 2-4 PM & 4-6 PM. 

Volunteer Town Hall - September 26th @ 6 PM We will be having a Town Hall on next Tuesday, September 26th at 6 PM. During the Town Hall we will discuss staffing changes, upcoming opportunities, and more!  If you have any questions you would like addressed in the Town Hall, please send them to DASVolunteer@dallas.gov before 10 AM on the 26th. DFW Pets are Family Event Recap Thank you so much to everyone who helped volunteer at the DFW Pets are Family Event on September 9th! This event was a huge success, and wouldn't have been possible without so many volunteers willing and able to help distribute food, get guests checked in, and help with line management.  Here are some of the numbers from the event:  370 families completed the online registration upon arrival (all of these families received an email with resources 809 pets registered  222 cats 587 dogs 703 pets receiving pet food 593 pets in need of ongoing food support 379 pets requesting microchips 330 pets requesting on going medical support 246 pets requesting behavior/training support  141 pets requesting support with living outside
