 Mega Adoption Event Recap
Thank you so much to everyone who helped and offered to help at the Mega Adoption Event last weekend. The event had 605 adoptions total, and 15 of the pets from DAS were adopted. One additional pet was adopted the following day by a family that met them at the Mega event.
We couldn't have done this event without the support of our wonderful volunteers and fosters - thank you so much for all you do!
Dog Fight De-Escalation Training
We will be having a dog fight de-escalation training for all volunteers on August 13th.
This virtual training will teach volunteers how to de-escalate a situation in which two dogs are fighting and require human intervention. The purpose of this training is to better equip volunteers with safe handling skills and how to handle a potential dog fight. Volunteers with this training will not be required to intervene in the case of a dog fight if they do not feel comfortable.
We will try to hold these trainings monthly for volunteers who are interested.
If you would like to join the training, you can sign up using the link here!

Project in a Box - Meatball Maker
Our medical team uses meatballs made from wet dog food to distribute medication to pups in the shelter - and they could use your help!
Volunteers pick up supplies to make these meatballs at home and then bring them back to DAS for cold storage and distribution. You must either have room in your fridge for eight large trays or you should plan to return them the same day you make them.
The activity takes about 4 hours, and the meatballs must be brought back to the shelter before 6 PM if you are unable to store them overnight. This position requires a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly commitment.
If you're interested, please reach out to us at DASvolunteer@dallas.gov and we can get you scheduled.
Clear the Shelters Adoption Kit Assembly
We are looking for some volunteers THIS Friday, from 5-6 PM, who can help assembling adoption kits for our Clear the Shelters promotion. If you are available to swing by the shelter after work and help out, please sign up using the link here.

Paper Bags for Foster Kits
The foster team is in need of paper bags to use for Foster kits. If you have any at home or go shopping soon, please bring in your paper bags so we can put them to good use!
You can bring any paper bag donations to the Volunteer Coordinator desk. Once we have an adequate supply of paper bags, we will schedule a foster kit assembly volunteer shift.
If you are interested in helping assemble foster kits, please email us at DASVolunteer@dallas.gov.

Blanket & Towel Donations
We are in need of more towels and blankets for use in the pet's kennels. If you, or anyone you know, have any old towels or blankets, we would greatly appreciate it. You can bring in-kind donations to the airlock in between the doors leading to the adoption lobby.
Don't have any old blankets or towels? We could also use new fleece blankets to help keep the pets more comfortable! If you are able to, please consider buying fleece blankets from our Amazon wish-list here.
