 Volunteer Open House - July 16th from 9 AM - 12 PM
We will be having a volunteer open house on July 16th! This shelter event will be similar to the fill the shelter event we had in November - with the intent to get as many volunteers in the building at the same time as possible. This will be a great way to get to know other volunteers and will be a chance to try out new volunteer opportunities you may not have tried before!
This event will be open to the public and will be a chance for prospective volunteers to see what we do and learn more about volunteering. So if you have anyone in your networks who has been interested in volunteering - be sure to invite them out!
To sign up, please go to My Impact and select Opportunities -> Search by Day -> Filter Activities and select July 16th. We have opened about 30 volunteer shifts for each hour block.
We will follow up with more details closer to the event - but be sure to save the date!

Special Project: Karunda Bed Repair & Shed Organization
We are in need of volunteers this Wednesday morning from 7-8:30 AM and Saturday morning from 8 -10 AM to help us repair some Karunda beds and organize our storage sheds! If you are available to come help out, please sign up using the link here.
Kitten Nursery Overnight Shifts
The Kitten Nursery is still in urgent need of volunteers to help with the overnight shifts (8 PM - 6 AM) as we work to onboard new staff members. If you are available, please consider signing up for one of the overnight shifts using the link here!
Please note that since there will be minimal staff on the overnight shift, please only sign up if you are comfortable working independently in the nursery. If you are new to the nursery or not comfortable working independently, please sign up for a daytime shift to get fully trained while there are more staff available to assist.
If you are interested in the nursery, but have not taken the training or completed the background check, please email us at DASVolunteer@dallas.gov!

D90 Running Program
The running program is back! This position has been on hold since the start of the Clean Break, but we are bringing it back this weekend! The shifts both days start at 7:30 AM.
What is the difference between Saturday and Sunday runs?
Our Saturday and Sunday crews both run three miles and walk a fourth, but the Saturday runs are 1.5 hours and the Sunday runs last 2.5+ hours. Our Saturday Crew is focused on a high-intensity workout with no cool-down time in between miles. The same number of dogs are getting to participate, and the runners are getting a great workout! Please note: you can run at your own pace, and joggers are welcome. The Speed Run title is earned through their quick turnarounds and minimal rest time, but all runner paces are welcome!
The Sunday crew is aptly called our Social Sunday D90 Runners! They still do all four miles, but they take plenty of rest in between miles, brushing the dogs, giving out treats, and posing for pictures we can use on social media. If you can run/jog a mile but might struggle to do three continuous miles, Sundays are for you!

Help Support the Pet Food Pantry
Did you know Dallas Animal Services runs its very own Pet Food Pantry? We are currently in 3 permanent locations in Dallas with three additional secondary sites. We also provide support for individuals in need of pet food resources without transportation! As the need for more pet food grows, so does our need for pet food donations. If you would like to support our pet food pantry, please support us through our Cuddly Wishlist.

Blanket & Towel Donations
We need more towels, blankets, and stuffed animals (for puppies & kittens)! If you, or anyone you know, have any old towels, blankets, or stuffed animals to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. You can bring in-kind donations to the airlock in between the doors leading to the adoption lobby.

 Volunteer Shout Out!
Thank you to everyone who came out to volunteer over the past weekend! With all of our volunteers' help - we had 89 adoptions between Saturday and Sunday. We also had a heartworm clinic, a landscaping project, and an adoption kit assembly project. We appreciate our volunteers pulling together to help us when we need it!
New Adoption Lobby Door
This past week our Adoption Lobby door was fixed! The right door will be unlocked by the time the first shift starts at 8 AM. The second set of (automatic) doors will also be unlocked, but will likely be in the closed position in the morning. If you are coming in before we open to the public, you will need to slide the doors apart to enter through the adoption lobby.
If either of the sets of doors are locked when you arrive, please call us at 214-412-4592.
Welcome New Volunteers!
