City of Dallas Whole Home Program to offer solar panel guidance to Dallas residents

DALLAS -- The City of Dallas’ Whole Home program is partnering with Solar United Neighbors to offer a hassle-free option to install rooftop solar panels and battery storage.

The Whole Home program educates and connects Dallas residents to existing programs to help with the implementation of upgrades for weatherization, energy efficiency and renewable energy. Recently, the program added  Solar Switch Dallas, which helps homeowners and small businesses navigate the process of installing rooftop solar. This resource helps families save money, advances Dallas’ climate commitments, and builds resiliency in the community.

"Solar Energy can help Dallas residents be more prepared for our changing climate. Solar Switch is designed to make installing solar affordable and straightforward for more Dallas residents than ever before." said Carlos Evans, Director of Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability.

Solar Switch leverages the power of group buying, and the expertise of nonprofit Solar United Neighbors to ensure participants get a quality system at a reduced price. Solar Switch vets qualified installers to compete for the group and runs a reverse auction to secure a competitively priced solar package.

"Everyone deserves to choose where their power comes from,” said America Garcia, Texas Program Director for Solar United Neighbors. “By going solar with a group, Solar Switch participants feel confident in their decision and save money through the power of group buying.”

With the dropping cost of solar panels, new federal clean energy incentives, and the Solar Switch group discount, going solar is more accessible than ever. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), participants may be able to use the solar tax credit for residential solar and save 30% on their total system cost. A similar tax credit is also available to small businesses, who are invited to take part in the program.

“Recognizing the benefits of rooftop solar to homeowner’s wallets, grid resiliency, local jobs, and clean air. I’m excited to see how much we can broaden the reach and benefits of solar with Solar Switch Dallas” said R. Michael Martin, City of Dallas Environmental Commission.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for the current installer auction which is now taking place. Registration is free and there is no obligation for homeowners to continue with the purchase of solar panels. Visit SolarSwitch.com/Dallas to register and learn more.
