800 Volunteers Mobilize For It’s My Park Day’

DALLAS – This Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., fifty groups totaling more than 800 volunteers will spread out over 45 Dallas park sites for It’s My Park Day. Individuals, homeowners’ associations, social and civic clubs, corporate volunteer teams, and Friends groups will help clean up and beautify city parks with assistance from the City’s park and recreation staff

The City of Dallas Park and Recreation Board and Park and Recreation Department invite the It’s My Park Day participants to a Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony immediately following the beautification efforts where Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Pauline Medrano will present a special proclamation. The recognition ceremony will begin at 11:45 a.m. at the Bachman Lake Pavilion, 3500 Northwest Highway, Dallas.

It’s My Park Day is a citywide beautification initiative to bring community volunteers together to enhance the City’s parks system. Dallas hosted its first It’s My Park Day in March 2011 to mobilize citizens to address specific needs in their neighborhood parks and since that time, volunteer participation has more than doubled.

With more than 21,000 acres of park land in Dallas, Park and Recreation Director Paul Dyer said communities are essential in helping the City ensure clean, safe and well-used parks and open spaces. “It’s My Park Day is a great opportunity for people to celebrate our parks,” said Dyer.
