Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Named 2023 “Deal of the Year” by D Magazine

DALLAS – D Magazine’s 2023 Deal of the Year was awarded on Wednesday to the City of Dallas for the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD) Master Plan and future project implementation. Every year D Magazine hosts D CEO’s Commercial Real Estate Awards program honoring North Texas’ top projects, transactions, dealmakers, and industry executives driving economic activity during 2022. Other awards presented as part of the Commercial Real Estate Awards program included: Developer of the Year, Broker of the Year, Pioneer and Emerging Leader of the Year.

The KBHCCD Master Plan is North Texas’ largest City-led economic development initiative in the last three decades. Since 2019, Convention and Event Services has led city staff and partners in evaluating and advancing options to address KBHCCD's $700 Million in deferred maintenance.

After CES and City leadership visited competing convention centers across the U.S., Dallas City Council voted in 2022 to expand and move the KBHCCD to the west of Lamar Street, opening 30 downtown Dallas acres for future development, creating approximately 50,000 jobs, and connecting neighborhoods within and beyond the Central Business District including the Cedars in south Dallas. Planned improvements include enhanced transportation options and pedestrian-friendly paths, along with new restaurant and retail offerings.

The award was presented on Wednesday, March 28, 2023 at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, with Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Omar Narvaez of District 6 and Council Member Jesse Moreno of District 2 accepting the honor on behalf of the City.

“The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas redevelopment will be the most transformational infrastructure project in Dallas since the opening of DFW Airport” said Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Omar Narvaez of District 6.
