In celebration of the fresh new voices and performance styles blossoming across the global south, Nuevo Mundo features three emerging directors and the plays they have selected, for an animated, staged reading series.
March 4th Choke by Emilio Infante, directed by Alexandra Hernandez
Choke tells the story of Esperanza, a woman who has worked her entire life with the hope of just scraping by. Dealing with issues arising from the healthcare crisis, intergenerational conflict, and the deleterious effects of machismo on familial integrity, the play explores how Esperanza, like many working-class Latinas, does not have the luxury of choice.
March 11th LITTLELAMB by Bella O’Brien directed by Shyama Nithiananda
Two lambs run away on a mission to find a simple world that may not exist anymore, a world full of lavender and green and far from the dangers of mass destruction. Their human shepherdess, Betty, is trying to get them back but there is danger haunting her. LITTLELAMB is a delicate and tragic story of war, death, love, and the search for self.
March 18th Noche y Niebla by Jaime Chabaud directed by Kike Castañeda Esta produccion esta presentando en castellano (this production is presented in Spanish only)
¿A quién conviene? Y muy especialmente. ¿Por qué el terror se ha instalado en zonas que cuentan con inmensas riquezas naturales?
 Through March 12
To DIE:GO in Leaves by Frida Kahlo is a “purely intoxicatingly theatrical” production inspired by Kahlo's paintings and biography. The result is a journey through the lifetime of Mexico’s most famous painter and a worldwide icon. To DIE:GO in Leaves, by Frida Kahlo is a play that tells a story more through movement than through dialogue. Performances in English and Spanish will be performed in repertory.
