Grocery store in southern Dallas food desert reopens under new ownership. Food Basket to bring fresh food to southern Dallas

What

Council Member Tennell Atkins invites the media, community leaders and stakeholders to attend the grand opening of the new Food Basket grocery store at 3540 Simpson Stuart Rd., in southern Dallas.

The new Food Basket store fills a grocery store gap created by the January 2021 closure of the Save U More store at the same location.

City Council supported incentives in 2014 and 2016 to assist with the development and construction of the initial grocery store and in September 2022, the City Council approved the sale of the store to the new operator.
