Dallas Animal Services in a Snapshot

We are excited to reflect and share our accomplishments for 2022. It is through our DAS animals and our BeDallas90 fosters that allowed our programs to be successful in 2022.

Along with the rest of the nation, DAS saw a considerable increase in intake in 2022. These puppies are an example of the 1,083 underage animals fostered, helping keep one of our most at-risk populations healthy.

Our fantastic playgroup team, led by Juana Alejandre, helps gather crucial information on the playstyle and sociability of our dogs. Foster’s utilize this information when choosing their next dog.

The residents of Dallas have consistently stepped up through-out the year, always answering the call for help from Covid, Distemper, staffing shortages, and CIRD-C.

Many fantastic staff members, help with everything from passing out your new foster pet to getting medication for pets out in foster’s. Always with a smile, our co-workers help lend a helping hand to our busy foster team.

Thank you to everyone that has continued to help DAS, through what has been a challenging year in the animal welfare community. With a record number of pet intakes (19,202 animals), never closing our doors, you as fosters, are making everyone proud by fostering 2,518 pets! In this new year, we want to thank you for continuing to improve our program through education, outreach, and utilizing the power of fostering to save lives.

New Foster Appointment

This spring, we are excited to roll out a new resource for our fosters: Playgroup assessments appointments! Here are the details: Any foster dog that has yet to been assessed by our playgroup team will be available to join in on morning playgroup assessments Our playgroup team have been trained to observe and assess dogs though the Dogs Play for Life program We highly recommend that foster parents take advantage of this to get valuable data on pets and to gather info to help better educate fosters when wanting to pull a second pet.

CIRD-C Update

Placement for 160 dogs was found in three days by offering our #150for150 incentive to those who could foster a large dog for two weeks or more. This allowed DAS to start our clean break and stop the spread of disease to our incoming animals. Many of you assisted in that amazing effort, and we are deeply grateful for your help! Unfortunately, we have discovered infections of CIV on the unexposed side of our building, meaning that our clean break has been compromised. We are continuing to work with the University of Wisconsin experts and Dr. Sandra Newberry to fight this outbreak. Townhall updates

On January 27th, our foster team gathered to share updates and answer questions from foster parents. For all that missed our townhall, we have made the viewing of this meeting available here so our fosters can stay the most up-to-date here.

Foster Resource Meet Up

Join us this Saturday February 2nd at 1pm at Flagpole Hill in Northeast Dallas to get a refill on pet supplies including dog beds (donated by foster parent Alicia,) and doggy themed photo shoot area!

Puppy Kissing Booth & Adoption Event

DAS transports are agreements between our rescue team and animal adoption agencies across the country. These transports are through the “Ticket to Ride”. The "'Ticket to Ride" designation may be assigned to select pets identified as eligible for adoption opportunities with a rescue affiliate. These pets are then transported from DAS to the receiving organization.

Would your foster pet be eligible for "Ticket to ride"?

Dog selected for ticket to ride are typically dog and people friendly, up-to-date on medical, and are negative for heartworm. Please ensure your foster is current on the following: 

• Make sure your foster is current on their monthly prevention and boosters.
• Crate train: When foster pets are comfortable in a crate, we can minimize any stress with traveling.
• Keep bios, notes, and pics up-to-date to share to potential rescues.
