We are very excited to have the supervisor of Foster and Rescue back in the office! David Giersch has overseen the Foster Team for four years and is now taking on both teams to help take them to the next level. Please join us in welcoming him back!
We are also thrilled to welcome our newest team member: Sheldon Williams. Sheldon has been with DAS for eight years and has done it all! From nursery to adoptions to rescue, he brings a wealth of knowledge that will serve our team well. We are very excited to add an additional person to our team who has a passion for all animals, small to large.

This month we are celebrating a long-stay pup: Amelia A1102111! This senior girl was in DAS care for quite a while until Jami E. stepped up to foster and helped find Amilia’s happy ending.
Pulling a long-stay dog can be quite an undertaking. What made you want to pull Amelia?
I saw a post about Amelia on Friends of DAS’ social media...I trusted the volunteers who had notes on her; she could be a good fit to try and get a glow-up on in a home to make her more approachable.
What is one of the biggest pieces of advice you can give to others for getting a large dog adopted?
I was very honest about Amelia, and we kept a positive outlook. It is okay to have a structured house and have separate time for your resident dog and foster dog to be out if that is needed. Every scenario will be different but being patient, structured, and assessing the situation for how your temporary house needs to be set up is so vital to success.
|
Lastly, is there anything that taking in Amelia has taught you?
Amelia was just absolutely tenacious and had spirit. Nothing got to her. Her past notes and what she had gone through were not rainbows and butterflies. But she had the will to be present and live on. She really taught me to keep the faith, things will work out. And sure, enough we found a great family that was an all-around fit for her.

Supplies Return:
If you currently have a pop-up crate or any other loaned supplies that you are not currently using, please return them to the DAS foster team or to the DAS adoption lobby. You can also bring them to our new monthly meet-up!
