Save the date and attend SDCC’s first trivia night in honor of Juneteenth!
In collaboration UNT Black Alumni and LOFE, spend an evening with friends and family as you compete, engage, and learn about the Black community around arts and culture. This will be a free social event to celebrate Juneteenth as a national holiday.
Register for trivia, games, or both. Teams will be made on site with a maximum of 4 people. Don’t have a team? No worries. Come solo and we will create one for you. Trivia will be emphasized on the arts and Black culture. This is a multi-round game with prizes for the winners. Participants must be 21 or older with a valid ID.

The Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce nominated SDCC’s very own John Spriggins as an awardee for this year’s Quest for Success!
The Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce Annual Quest for Success Awards was established in 1985, under the leadership of Thomas L. Houston, to honor and recognize African entrepreneurs in the Dallas/Fort Worth area who have made significant contributions to the business and civic communities. Over its 37-year history, the Quest for Success Awards has honored hundreds of Black-owned businesses across the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

SDCC had the opportunity to shoot with a Brownie Hawkeye film camera last month with Whitney Daude from Dallas Center of Photography.
George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, coined the advertising slogan, “You push the button, and we’ll do the rest.” With this workshop and photo walk, DCP is adopting the same philosophy. The Brownie Hawkeye camera is stylish, easy to use for all ages, and simply fun to photograph with. It was introduced in 1949 during the golden age of photography.

☀️ Malcolm X Blvd. Welcomes New Recreational Plaza for the Summer
The Better Block Foundation has partnered with nonprofit Child Poverty Action Lab to bring a new recreational space in South Dallas for the summer. They hope it will unify the community, stimulate the economy and help reduce crime rates. Learn more
✨ South Dallas/Fair Park Opportunity Fund
The South Dallas community is experiencing development and redevelopment at an accelerating pace. Numerous projects that expand the business base and improve the neighborhood’s vibrancy are already underway or are planned for the community. The purpose of the Opportunity Fund is to provide loans and grants to promote economic development and support human development initiatives in neighborhoods surrounding Fair Park. Learn more

Applications Now Open!
Open call for the Community Artist Program or (CAP) applications are open from June 6 – June 27. The Community Artist Program provides support for ethnic based artists and cultural organizations to teach and perform at host facilities in Dallas Neighborhoods.
