DALLAS -- Tyler Street and Polk Street from Canty Street to Pembroke Avenue will convert to a two-way traffic operation starting at Noon on Tuesday, May 31.
Tyler Street currently provides one-way travel northbound while Polk Street provides one-way travel southbound between the project limits. The conversion to two-way traffic is an effort to make the streets more pedestrian friendly and promote connectivity between neighborhoods throughout the corridor.
Electronic message boards will also be placed at each end of the project limits in advance to notify travelers of the upcoming conversion.
In addition to the conversion, the scope of the Tyler/Polk street project also included several improvements to the existing signals and roadway, including construction of a traffic roundabout on Tyler and Polk between Canty Street and Winston Street and a signalized intersection on Tyler and Polk south of Page Avenue.
City crews also replaced nine outdated traffic signals between Davis Street and Twelfth Street, installed barrier-free ramps, continental style crosswalks, replaced existing water and wastewater mains with new pipe, and updated the pavement markings which included new bike lane striping. The conversion and the street improvements were funded by the 2006 City of Dallas Bond Program.
