Beckles Dancing Company, in partnership with the City of Dallas Office Arts and Culture, is celebrating its 27th year since its formation in 1995. Works by Loris Anthony Beckles, Layla Brent-Tompkins, Eleo Pomare, Anthony Joseph Wade Jr., and BDC company members Featuring music by Jason Davis, saxophonist, leader of Jason Davis Jazz, and longtime SDCC associate, among others. Guest Artists: Greiner Dance Company and Tejas Dance.

SDCC’s Music Lounge continues with a new line up powered by Jess Garland of Swan Strings! Enjoy a night of live music performed by Brianne Sargent and Flower Child.
Swan Strings is a 501c3 nonprofit organization providing free music education and sound therapy services to North Texas individuals without access. Swan Strings is expanding to a performing and visual arts organization providing free or low cost concerts to the community.
This concert is free. Registration available with any donated amount. Limited seating available. Walk ins are welcome but priority will be given to registrants. All others will be waitlisted.

Celebrate National Women’s History Month! In collaboration with The Writer’s Garret join Artist Sherrie Zantea of The Dallas Poetry Slam at SDCC to explore and learn about African American Women Poets.
In this 90-min workshop, you will discover how female African American poets have shown their light on American social problems and racial injustice and create your own works of poetry.
This is a family-friendly workshop designed for children 8-14 years old. Parent participation is welcome! Registration is limited to one (1) parent per child. Tickets are needed for kids only. Seats are limited for this workshop and is first come, first serve with registration.

For four weeks, students will learn about the wonderful contributions of the African diaspora in art with Raise Your Voice. They will explore photography, music, art, and spoken word.
Each day they will be led by near peer instructors, community volunteers, and industry professionals to engage in hands-on, multimedia activities that will help them develop observation and technical skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, and various other art mediums.
Camp will end with a celebratory gallery walk event that will showcase students’ creative art and portfolios. Registration closes on May 4, 2022.

Egg Hunt with Dallas Park & Rec
Join the Dallas Park & Recreation department for a free egg hunt, candy, and goodies. It will be held at the MLK King Jr. Recreation Center Thursday, April 14 from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Ages 1 - 12 and please bring a basket. For more information, call 214-670-8363
Dixon Day at the Larry Johnson Recreation Center
We spent Saturday celebrating Dixon Day at the Larry Johnson Recreation Center teaching the young ones how to make butterflies simply with a plastic bag, some confetti, and a little glitter tape. It’s Healing Time! May is Mental Health Awareness Month and 2 Inspire Peace and The Art Inspired Healing Collective is bringing our community together to heal with art. There will be workshops hosted by artists and healers in our community. Great food, vendors, activities for youth, and performances from some local artists in Dallas. Headlined by A Cure for Paranoia, The Brown Suga Lounge Poets, and Jess the Harpist.
