District 10 Council Member Adam McGough Reelected to the National League of Cities Board of Directors

DALLAS — The City of Dallas’ District 10 Council Member Adam McGough was reelected to serve a second two-year term on the National League of Cities (NLC) Board of Directors during NLC’s 2021 Virtual City Summit on Nov. 19. This election ensures Dallas will remain part of NLC’s robust efforts to provide cities, towns and villages with a voice in Washington, D.C.

First elected to the board in 2019, McGough was an engaged member as NLC joined partner organizations to advocate for direct and flexible fiscal assistance to local governments. During McGough’s last term, NLC helped successfully lobby for assistance for small businesses, restaurants, the live-entertainment industry and for the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“Working with the National League of Cities has been a great highlight throughout my tenure as an elected official,” said McGough. “I’m honored for the opportunity to continue to represent Dallas and the interests of all cities, towns and villages alongside a group of officials who care so deeply about local communities.”

NLC, founded in 1924, is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments across the United States. With more than 2,400 member cities from across the nation, NLC’s mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance.

“As a top 10 American city with a booming economy and a diverse and growing population, Dallas always should have a strong voice in the national political conversation,” said Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson. “I am pleased that Adam McGough, who chairs our Public Safety Committee, will again serve Dallas on the national stage as part of the National League of Cities leadership team. I trust that he will represent our interests well.”

Election to the board entailed the sole endorsement of McGough by the Dallas City Council and the endorsement of a 14-member nominating committee responsible for recommending a slate of officers and board members to lead NLC in 2022. McGough is one of 54 local elected officials from across the country appointed to the 2022 NLC Board of Directors for a two-year term.

“Over the past two years, we have faced some of the most difficult challenges imaginable. At every turn, our board of directors at NLC has worked together to advocate for what matters most. This is an amazing group of leaders, and it is my honor to continue to serve alongside friends and neighbors across this country,” McGough said. “I’m excited and thankful to remain part of NLC’s important work advocating for innovation in key areas including public safety, mental health, transportation, affordable housing and other quality-of-life issues that directly impact local communities across our nation.”
