Greetings, District 10!
June was an eventful month at City Hall, filled with tough goodbyes and warm welcomes. On June 14, City Council said farewell to four outgoing councilmembers —Adam Medrano (District 2), Lee Kleinman (District 11), Jennifer Staubach Gates (District 13) and David Blewett (District 14) — and welcomed four new councilmembers — Jesse Moreno (District 2), Jaynie Schultz (District 11), Gay Donnell Willis (District 13) and Paul E. Ridley (District 14). I’m honored to have served with the outgoing members of City Council and look forward to working with the new members to assist and empower Dallas communities.
Following the 2021 City Council Inauguration Ceremony at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, our new council elected Councilmember Chad West (District 1) to serve as the city’s new Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember Jaime Resendez (District 5) as the new Deputy Mayor Pro Tem. Congratulations to both councilmembers on their new appointments!
Last week, the City Council’s July recess began, and the council will reconvene officially on Wednesday, August 4. During the recess, planning will begin for a productive 2021-2023 City Council term.
Thank you to each of you for all you do every day to make our community a better place for Dallas residents. Please continue to stay engaged, as your input will prove invaluable as City Council works to improve Dallas residents’ lives and plan for the future of Dallas. As always, if my team or I can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to email District10@dallascityhall.com. It is an honor and a privilege to serve you.
Councilmember Adam McGough, District 10

June 14: The 2021 City Council Inauguration Ceremony at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center signified a meaningful beginning to the new City Council term. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19-related health concerns, the ceremony was closed to the public but was attended by a small group of city staff and councilmembers’ relatives. June 22: It was a pleasure to speak at the Forest-Audelia Revitalization Celebration and Better Block Kick Off at the Youth Boxing Gym. This revitalization of the Forest-Audelia intersection proves an exciting opportunity to revitalize a high-crime neighborhood. There was a great turnout at the event from community members interested in learning more about the city’s purchase of the shopping center and plans to build a park, WindMass Capital’s renovation of The Brooklyn apartments and Better Block’s pavement-to-park activation scheduled to open in October. Our team extends a special thanks to Park and Recreation Board Vice President and District 10-appointee Robb Stewart, Dallas Park and Recreation Department Director John Jenkins and his staff, North LHPID Director Chuck Laughlin, South LHPID Director Vicky Taylor, Former LHPID Director Kathy Stewart, WindMass Capital CEO Mitchell Voss, The Better Block Founder Jason Roberts, the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas and many others who made the event possible.
“We have a long way to go, but we are finally at a place where we tipped the scale, and we are going to make this area one of the safer areas in the City of Dallas ... Tonight is an opportunity to celebrate.” – Councilmember Adam McGough
June 23: The City Council voted to approve a zoning request that would allow for a single-family development at the location of the former Hollywood Overhead Door Co. property in Lake Highlands.
Take the Local Solid Waste Management Plan (LSWMP) update survey to help inform decisions about the City’s solid waste and recycling programs as well as future opportunities to reduce waste destined for the landfill by completing this survey. Information provided by residents and other stakeholders will be reviewed and incorporated into the strategies and implementation plan developed as part of the LSWMP update.
Tomorrow, July 2, is Policy Advisor and Council Liaison Sam Merten’s last day working for the District 10 office at the City of Dallas. We thank him for his incredible contributions to the city and the District 10 community and wish him the best of luck in his next endeavor.
