Mayor's Milk Initiative to begin third round of distributions on Thursday

DALLAS — The Mayor's Milk Initiative will resume Thursday with a third round of sites scheduled for distributions.

The initiative is a partnership between Mayor Eric Johnson, Dallas-based Borden Dairy, Dallas ISD, and local faith leaders. The program will continue at least through the end of June.

During the first round of the Mayor’s Milk Initiative, volunteers distributed 12,595 gallons of milk and approximately 230,000 pounds of food from the North Texas Food Bank. Overall, more than 6,400 families — a total of more than 24,000 people — were helped.

During the second round that began last week, volunteers distributed 8,076 gallons of milk to approximately 3,500 families — more than 11,000 people.

Overall, nearly 21,000 gallons of 2% Borden white milk have been distributed at Mayor’s Milk Initiative sites so far.

"The Mayor's Milk Initiative has already helped thousands of families during this time of great need in our city and across our country," Mayor Johnson said. "Dallas will recover from COVID-19's devastation, and doing so will take continued efforts to alleviate the burdens that the pandemic has placed on our residents."

The third round will begin Thursday at the following site:

  • George W. Truett Elementary (1811 Gross Rd., Dallas, TX 75228)
    • 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The full list of locations and times for the third round of distributions can be found here.

The Mayor’s Milk Initiative is made possible by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s new Farmers to Families Food Box Program, which is part of the Coronavirus Farm Assistance Program (CFAP).

Borden Dairy received the USDA’s largest award under the Farmers to Families Food Box Program and plans to distribute a total of 700 million servings of milk in the Southeast, Southwest and Midwest regions, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
