Mayor's Milk Initiative to begin distributions Monday

DALLAS -- Mayor Eric Johnson on Friday announced the planned sites and dates for the distribution of thousands of gallons of free milk through the Mayor’s Milk Initiative, a partnership with Borden Dairy, Dallas ISD, and local faith leaders.

Dallas-based Borden will deliver the milk to schools and houses of worship. And at those 16 sites, faith-based volunteers and participating nonprofits will distribute the milk to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first two distributions are:

  • Eladio R. Martinez Learning Center
    • When: 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Monday, May 25
    • Where: 4500 Bernal Drive, Dallas, TX 75212
  • St. Philip’s School and Community Center
    • When: 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 26
    • Where: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Dallas, TX 75215

A full list of the sites, dates, times, and site hosts can be found here. And for more information on the program, including a map of the locations, click here.

“The Mayor’s Milk Initiative will help many Dallas families who are facing hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Johnson said. “During difficult times, the people of our city, our business community, and our institutions have always rallied to help our neighbors in need, and this initiative is the latest example of what we can accomplish by working together.”

The Mayor’s Milk Initiative is made possible by the Department of Agriculture’s new Farmers to Families Food Box Program, which is part of Coronavirus Farm Assistance Program (CFAP).

Borden received the USDA’s largest award under the Farmers to Families Food Box Program and plans to distribute a total of 700 million servings of milk in the Southeast, Southwest and Midwest regions, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

“Dallas is our home, and we are proud to expand our local donation initiatives with the support of the Mayor, the Dallas ISD and other non-profit partners,” said Borden CEO Tony Sarsam. “Borden applauds the City for its rapid response to ensure DFW residents have convenient access to nutrition during this time.”
