Mayor Johnson to declare "Meals on Wheels Day" in Dallas
As a kickoff to the 18th Annual March for Meals campaign sponsored by Meals on Wheels America, Mayor Eric Johnson on Thursday will host VNA Texas — the organization that provides Meals on Wheels throughout Dallas County — at Dallas City Hall to declare Thursday as “March for Meals Day” in the City of Dallas.
One in six seniors in Dallas County struggles with hunger. VNA Meals on Wheels provides a hot, nutritious, home-delivered meal each weekday to more than 4,500 hungry, home-bound seniors and disabled adults. An additional 1,200 Dallas seniors receive meals at City of Dallas recreation centers each weekday.
Throughout March, elected officials and prominent Dallasites will deliver Meals on Wheels to spotlight the importance of nutrition and companionship services to seniors and thank the 5,000-plus volunteers who help deliver meals annually.
