DALLAS, TX- The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center invites you to participate in the 2019 Juneteenth Celebration, a community-based event celebrating history, culture and freedom. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. This event takes place 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 19 at the MLK, Jr. Community Center, 2922 MLK, Jr. Blvd.
There will also be a special ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new MLK Fresh Food Distribution Center. The distribution center is an initiative to increase access to fresh food in South Dallas and surrounding communities. Sponsored in part by Leadership Dallas, North Texas Food Bank, Trusted World, Miles of Freedom, and Empowering the Masses.
This year’s celebration includes:
- Local vendors and food trucks
- Free health screenings and HIV testing
- Fun and games for children
- Community-based organizations and social services agencies
- Arts and crafts activities for the entire family
- Cooking demonstrations
- And last, but not least, live entertainment by local artists, musicians, poets, dancers, and more!
