DWI No Refusal Initiative
The Dallas Police Department will conduct a No-Refusal DWI Initiative for the Labor Day Holiday beginning 6 p.m. Friday,
August 18, 2017 and will conclude at 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017.
Adults (without obvious injury) will be taken to the Lew
Sterrett Criminal Justice Center and be processed according to the Detention
Services Section Standard Operating Procedures, which will be available for
reference.
Officers are reminded that it is always the officer’s
discretion as to which type of test to request from potential DWI suspects. This
decision should be based on the evidence and
whether drugs or something other than alcohol is involved. In the event
that subjects refuse to submit to any tests requested, arresting officers will
secure evidentiary search warrants.
This warrant will direct a health care professional to
collect a sample of the subject’s blood, which will be sent to the Southwest
Institute of Forensic Sciences for Blood Alcohol Concentration analysis, and
then be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for filing with the courts
as evidence.
For further information, please contact an on duty
supervisor at 214-670-5550.
