New grocery store ends food desert in Dallas neighborhood; Grand opening of new Save-A-Lot store will now be held Friday

What

The date for the grand opening of the first grocery store in the Highland Hills neighborhood has been moved to Friday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m.

A Neighborhood Plus target area is now being crossed off the list of food deserts in Dallas. The City’s Office of Economic Development assisted with funding to bring a new Save-A-Lot grocery store to the Highland Hills area.

Residents who have long awaited a grocery store in their area will hear from the Presidents of Paul Quinn and Cedar Valley Colleges about steps being taken to address the food desert and about ongoing partnership efforts to create more jobs in the area, which has a high unemployment rate.

The City of Dallas assisted with workforce development, including conducting a Career Resource Fair to help connect residents with jobs. Most employees at the new store are residents of the community.
