This summer marks a milestone, as the Mayor’s Back To School Fair celebrates its 20th anniversary. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings will be at Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary School on Thursday (June 23) at 10:30 a.m. to kick off the first pre-registration drive and unveil key details regarding the Mayor’s Back To School Fair (scheduled for Aug. 5 at Fair Park). He will be joined by Dr. Michael Hinojosa, Fair sponsors, Dallas City Councilmembers and Dallas ISD Trustees.
With a crowd of 40,000 expected to attend the Aug. 5 Fair, families are encouraged to sign up early to ensure receipt of school supplies. Free school supplies are available only to families who meet specific eligibility requirements.
At the news conference, Cedric B’s Barber and Beauty Shop and Ogle School of Skin, Hair and Nails will provide free haircuts for kids. Children from Zaragoza Elementary’s violin and modern band groups will perform prior to the news conference. Birthday cake will be served.
Representing the Dallas Mavericks will be Champ, MavsMan, the Mavs ManiAACs and Mavs dancers. Amerigroup’s mascot, Captain Amerigroup, the State Fair mascot Little Big Tex and Half Price Books’ mascot Bookworm will also be on hand.
