Texas Comptroller’s Office Releases New How-To Videos for Sales Tax Filers
(AUSTIN) — With the January 20 deadline for filing annual sales and use tax returns fast approaching, the Comptroller's office has prepared several videos on how to file and pay using the agency's WebFile system.
If you are new to WebFile, have never filed sales and use tax before, or just need a refresher on how to file and pay, visit www.comptroller.texas.gov/webfile/ to watch these YouTube videos on creating and working with a Webfile account:
- How to Create a WebFile Account: This video shows you how to create a WebFile account. The WebFile online tax filing system is available 24 hours a day through the Comptroller’s office, making it easy and convenient to file reports, extensions, and make payments.
- How to Access Your Tax Account and Navigate WebFile: This video provides an introduction to the Comptroller's WebFile system. This video will show you how to create a WebFile account, electronically file, and pay taxes. You'll also learn how to use the View Return Summary function, the File Original Return function, the File Amended Return function and the View Transaction History page function.
- How to Locate Your WebFile Number: This video shows you how to locate or obtain your WebFile Number. Your WebFile number is your "access code" to the Comptroller's electronic reporting system. Your WebFile number is a six-digit number beginning with RT or XT. This number is unique to your account and tax type.
- How to Find Your 11-Digit Sales Tax Taxpayer Number: This video shows you how to locate your 11-digit taxpayer number. This number is necessary to file a return or make a payment. Your taxpayer number starts with a 3 or 1 and was provided to you by the Comptroller of Public Accounts. You can locate your taxpayer number online at https://mycpa.cpa.state.tx.us/coa/Index.html.
- How to File a Sales Tax Return - Short Form: This video show you how to file with WebFile if you are a filer who needs to file a Sales Tax Return using the short form.
- How to File a Sales Tax Return - Long Form: This video shows you how to file with WebFile if you are a filer who needs to file a Sales Tax Return using the long form.
