Comptroller Huffines Praises Texas Job Growth, which Continues to Surpass National Trends
(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Don Huffines today praised the state’s most recent employment data, which reports that Texas continues to outpace national trends, adding 154,300 nonfarm jobs between September 2025 and September 2026.
According to data from the Texas Workforce Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Texas’ workforce grew by 1.1% during those 12 months, outpacing the national annual job growth rate by 0.8 percentage points.
“Texas’ economy continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience, with job growth that once again outperforms national trends,” Huffines said. “While monthly shifts across industries are expected, the broader picture remains clear: Texas is benefiting from a dynamic, fast‑moving economy supported by strong market fundamentals.
“I’m hopeful that this momentum translates into meaningful opportunities for families, workers, and businesses across the state and I’m confident we can advance meaningful property tax relief that lowers housing costs for Texans.”
The Manufacturing industry had the largest private sector over-the-month increase in September after adding 4,700 jobs. Professional and Business Services added 1,600 jobs over the month while Information added 1,400.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Texas registered at 4.4%, unchanged from last month’s report.
