May 11, 2016 Comptroller Glenn Hegar Distributes $768 Million in Monthly Sales Tax Revenue to Local Governments(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $767.7 million in local sales tax allocations for May, 1.1 percent more than in May 2015. These allocations are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly, and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers. “The cities of Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso and Fort Worth saw noticeable increases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “Energy-centric cities such as Houston, Odessa and Midland continue to see decreases in sales tax allocations.”
For details on May sales tax allocations to individual cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts, visit the Comptroller’s Monthly Sales Tax Allocation Comparison Summary Reports. Media Note: To provide greater transparency and eliminate confusion regarding state sales tax revenues and local sales tax allocations, the Comptroller’s office has begun providing one press release announcing state revenues and another announcing local allocations. The release detailing state sales tax revenues will be issued at the beginning of each month, while the release detailing sales tax allocations to local taxing entities will continue as before. All recipients of the former single press release were automatically signed up to receive both releases. —30— |
