Fire Station 2 is really taking shape! Crews just finished the tape and bedding and will put the first coat of primer on the new walls next week. In addition, exterior brickwork is almost done on the new additions to the facility.
Once complete, the renovated station will feature more space and major upgrades, including new flooring, a larger kitchen, and improved sleeping quarters for our firefighters. Construction is on track for completion in early fall 2026.
If you’ve driven by Generations Park at Boys Ranch in the last few weeks, you may have noticed some construction near the ballfields.
GenPlay Sports, the company that manages the baseball/softball fields within the park, is investing $535,000 to add turf infields to all three ballfields, at no cost to the City. In exchange, the Council approved an extended management agreement with GenPlay.
In replacing the dirt infields with turf, the fields will be more durable, easier to maintain, and provide the players with a smooth, level playing surface that isn't affected by rain or worn patches, meaning fewer bad hops and rainouts. The outfields will continue to be natural grass.
Work is already underway on all three fields. Learn more about the project in the Fort Worth Report article.

Generations Park at Boys Ranch has officially been named a Lone Star Legacy Park by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society, one of the highest honors a park can receive in the State of Texas.
This prestigious designation is reserved for parks that hold lasting significance in their communities and across Texas, and fewer than 100 parks statewide have earned this recognition. Formerly known as Bedford Boys Ranch, the park’s roots date back to 1949, when it served as a sanctuary for boys in need and played a pivotal role in shaping the early identity and growth of Bedford. When the City later transformed the land into a public park, it became the heart of our community and a defining landmark in a city without a traditional downtown.
Today, Generations Park at Boys Ranch is a central gathering place for residents of all ages, hosting major community events, cultural celebrations, recreation, and everyday moments that bring people together. This Lone Star Legacy designation honors the park’s long-standing significance to Bedford and recognizes its lasting role as a place where generations of residents have gathered, celebrated, and built community.
Crud Cruiser is coming to town! Bedford residents can dispose of household hazardous and electronic waste at this annual event beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 21 at the Meadow Park Athletic Complex (3200 Meadow Park Dr.).
Here’s what to know if you plan on participating:
- The capacity of the Crud Cruiser truck is limited and we recommend arriving early! Unfortunately, additional trucks are not available so if you miss this event, or the event closes before you can drop off your items, you can dispose of your items at the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center. (More info: www.bedfordtx.gov/hhw)
- Household hazardous waste and chemicals cannot be left unattended in the parking lot.
- Commercial, business, and industrial waste will NOT be accepted.
- Tires, yard waste, ammunition, medical waste, and propane cylinders will NOT be accepted.
- If you have EMPTY paint cans, those can be disposed of in your normal trash. If there’s still some paint left in the can and if the paint is NOT oil-based, visit www.bedfordtx.gov/hhw for tips on how to skip this event and properly dispose of your paint can. Oil-based paint is always considered hazardous and can never be thrown out in your trash.
-
Electronic waste includes computers, laptops, printers, cameras, appliances, etc.
-
Alkaline batteries (like Duracell, Energizer, etc.) can be placed in your regular trash.
A new mural is coming to Roy Savage Pool - and you’re invited to help bring it to life!
In March, artist Molly Keen will begin painting a vibrant mural celebrating Bedford landmarks and native plants on the interior walls of Roy Savage Pool. As part of the process, the City is hosting a Community Painting Day on Friday, March 20, where YOU can grab a brush and be part of the artwork.
During the community painting day, participants will be able to choose a paint color, learn simple mural techniques (like how to avoid drips), and help fill in large, outlined sections along the mural – think of it like a giant, paint-by-number wall! After the community painting day, Molly will complete the remaining details of the mural.
The community painting day will occur on Friday, March 20 at Roy Savage Pool (1201 Central Dr.) during two different shifts between 9:30 a.m. to noon. The shift times are:
-
Shift 1: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
-
Shift 2: 11 a.m. to noon
Register for either time online at www.bedfordtx.gov/poolmural. All ages are welcome and you do not need to be a Bedford resident to participate. Each shift will be limited to 34 painters, and you MUST pre-register in order to paint.
Mural Background
In 2023, the City accepted proposals for a mural originally intended for an exterior wall at Roy Savage Pool. After review by a City selection panel, Molly Keen’s design was unanimously chosen.
Soon after, the project was paused to allow staff to plan for an important improvement at Roy Savage Pool: opening a wall to the existing restroom facility so it can be accessed from Central Park. Previously, park visitors did not have public restrooms available. Once construction is complete, this change will provide highly-requested restroom access for the park.
With this update underway (construction is starting soon), Parks and Recreation staff revisited the mural project and relocated it to the interior walls of Roy Savage Pool. Now, the project is moving forward, better aligned with park improvements and ready to be shared with the community.

Thanks to the generous support of the Bedford Library Foundation and the Friends of the Bedford Public Library, new study pods were recently installed, offering quiet, private space for job seekers, remote workers, and students. You’ll also notice the new living room-style seating, designed to make the Library even more comfortable and welcoming for reading, working, or relaxing.
We’re grateful to everyone who supported the Library during Library Giving Day, North Texas Giving Day, and other fundraising efforts – your support helped make these upgrades possible.
